Hanoi farmers trying to get up from flood

November 11, 2008   about Uncategorized

VietNamNet Bridge – Nearly 400 families in Dong Chiem village in An Phu commune, My Duc district, Hanoi are still in water ten days after the deluge.

Dong Chiem villagers transport agricultural produce by boat

Boats and rafts are the only vehicles in sight these days

Farmer Lai Van Lao’s most valuable asset is this pair of pigs. The pigs are living on the roof while Lao and his family live in their flooded house (around 80cm water)

Dong Chiem village looks very nice in water, but behind that beauty is hardship for local people

These children have had to quit school

Water levels have gone down and some families are back home

Clothes and bedding are dried after nearly one week of rain

Most of Dong Chiem’s villagers are living on the dike, waiting for the water to recede
