HCM City buys 863,000 health insurance cards for the poor
VietNamNet Bridge - HCM City authorities have agreed to grant VND 137 billion (US $8 million) to the health fund for the poor in 2009 to buy more than 836,000 health insurance cards.

Poor families that have annual income of less than VND 8 million (US $470) per person and the people who enjoy social allowance will be provided with free health insurance cards.
Needy households that earn from VND 8 million to VND 12 million (US $470 to $705) per person per year will receive 50% of the value of the health insurance card.
Health insurance cards will be granted in several phases but this task will end in the first three months of 2009.
Poor families who earn less than VND 5 million (US $295) per person per year and those who enjoy social allowance will have VND 500,000 and VND 400,000 per family this Lunar New Year from the city’s budget.
Some districts in HCM City have called for benefactors to present Tet gifts to 2,800 poor people.
This year, poor people who go to abroad to work are allowed to borrow from VND 50,000 to VND 100,000 from the Hunger Eradication and Poverty Alleviation Fund.
