Lookatvietnam – In the wake of booming holiday movie ticket sales, the institute for cultural exchange with France (Idecaf) is screening a series of Vietnamese and French crime and detective films at the Idecaf Theater in HCMC’s District 1 until March 10.

A movie about drugs and violence, the Vietnamese film Vu dieu tu than (Death’s Dance), directed by Bui Tan Dung, stars Thanh Thuy, Binh Minh and Tuan Tu.
This film will be screened at 7 p.m. on March 2.
The love story of policeman Antoine and an older woman, Carolline Vaudieu, will be told in the French film Le petit lieutenant (The Young Lieutenant). This film will be screened at 3 p.m. on February 7 and at 7 p.m. on March 3.
Quai des Orfevres (Department 36), directed by Olivier Marchal and staring Daniel Auteuil, Gérard Depardieu and André Dussollier, is the competition between two French policemen to fight a gang of thieves and win the heart of a young woman, Camille Vrinks.
This film will be screened at 7 p.m. on February 9 and March 3.
Scènes de crimes (Crime Scenes) tells the story of a serial killer. The film, directed by Frédéric Schoendoerffer and staring Charles Berling and André Dussollier, will be screened at 3 p.m. on February 14 and 24.
Vietnamese film Hy vong cuoi cung (Last Hope) reflects the erosion of professional ethics among young Vietnamese businessmen and officers. The film, directed by Tran Phuong and staring Tat Binh and Nhu Quynh, won the Silver Lotus Award for best film and best director at the fifth Vietnamese Film Festival in 1983.
This film will be screened at 3 p.m. on February 21 and 7 p.m. on March 9.
The final French film of the program, Le Convoyeur (Cash Truck), directed by Nicolas Boukhrief and staring Albert Dupontel and Jean Dujardin, is the story of Alexandre Demarre. Is he a bum, a cop or a thief?
This film will be screened at 7 p.m. on February 23 and 3 p.m. on March 7.

New 4D film debuts at Suoi Tien amusement park
After the success of the film Huyen thoai bach ma (The legend of the white horse), which attracted over 100,000 viewers last year, Alta Cinema 4D at Suoi Tien Park in HCMC’s District 9 has been screening the new 4D-film, Ngon hai dang huyen bi (The mysterious lighthouse), since the Lunar New Year holidays, according to Tuoi Tre. The film is the story of a captain’s family whose life is filled with the sounds of the sea. One day raging waves sweep away their two children. However, they are miraculously brought back to life by two other children. Glimpses of light from the mysterious lighthouse seem to help people sense love and solidarity between the invisible and visible worlds. Both films will continue to be screened for 4D-movie lovers.
