LookAtVietnam - Solidarity Service International (SODI), a German organisation, has pledged to provide 435,250 Euros in aid to help the central province of Quang Tri clear unexploded ordnance (UXO) in 2009.

The funds will be used for the UXO clearance in Hai Lam commune, Hai Lang district, to allow the resettlement of people from flood-prone areas.

It will also fund mobile clearance activities in Hai Lang district, and Dong Ha and Quang Tri towns.

The SODI officials, led by the organisation’s vice executive director, Ilona Schleicher, visited Cam Tuyen kindergarten and Cam Thuy secondary school in Cam Lo district, and Linh Hai clinic centre in Gio Linh district.

They also visited victims of unexploded ordnance and Agent Orange/dioxin in both Cam Lo and Gio Linh districts, where several SODI-funded projects have been carried out.

They attended a number of working sessions with Cam Lo and Gio Linh district authorities to discuss the outcomes of their projects.
