VietNamNet Bridge – The 26-year-old patient in the southern province of Soc Trang did not die because of H5N1, according to testing results released on March 23.

This patient, Ly Thi Hang, died after four days of fever and symptoms similar to those of avian flu. However tests performed by the HCM City Pasteur Institute show that she was not infected with H5N1, said doctor Nguyen Thanh Tung, Director of the Preventive Health Centre of Bac Lieu Province.

The patient ate sick ducks nearly a month ago. She was admitted to the general hospital of nearby Bac Lieu province on March 16 with symptoms such as headache, exhaustion and coughing. The unfortunate patient died early in the morning of March 20.

On March 19, a three-year-old boy from Chaut Thanh District, Dong Thap Province, died of the H5N1 virus after being treated at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases for three days. Tests at the HCM City Pasteur Institute and the HCM City Tropical Hospital proved that he was infected with H5N1.

On the same day, a 4-year-old child from Dong Thap was moved to the HCM City Tropical Hospital with symptoms of avian flu. But the test was negative to H5N1. The child left the hospital after that.
