National oil group to tap four new oil fields; WB helps upgrade Mekong delta major cities; Congress on establishing overseas business association

They include two oil fields in Vietnam – Nam Rong-Doi Moi and Peal – and two in Malaysia – D30 and Dana.
Apart from providing domestic households with 7.5 billion cu.m of gas this year, the PVN plans to raise its power output in 2009 to 10 billion kWh and negotiate with Electricity of Vietnam on the sale of electricity. The PVN is operating the Ca Mau Electricity Plants No. 1 and 2 and the Nhon Trach Power Plant.
The group is closely monitoring the test-run of the Dung Quat Oil Refinery which is scheduled to be inaugurated in October.
The PVN has fulfilling most of its targets for the first half of the year, including a turnover of 120 trillion VND, surpassing the plan by 13 percent. It earned 3.5 billion USD from oil exports in the period, meeting 80 percent of the year’s target.
WB helps upgrade Mekong delta major cities
The selected cities are My Tho of Tien Giang province, Ca Mau of Ca Mau province, Rach Gia of Kien Giang province, and Can Tho amd Tra Vinh town of Tra Vinh province.
Dam said that a pre-feasibility study for the upgrade of My Tho city will be conducted in the last six months of the year. The city’s feasibility project will be made in 2010, and implementation of the project will be carried out after approval.
Congress on establishing overseas business association
More than 100 overseas Vietnamese business people from many countries in the world will take part in a congress on establishing the Overseas Vietnamese Business Association, to be held in Hanoi on August 9-10.
Representatives from domestic financial organisations and economic groups will also attend the event, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese said.
The congress will be a forum for businesses to share experiences and to discuss investment, production and trade opportunities in Vietnam and abroad.
It will also allow businesses to hold dialogues with relevant authorities and local experts relating to issues of mutual concern.
The Overseas Vietnamese Business Association aims to assist and create favourable conditions for its members to undertake investment, production and trade activities in and outside the country.
At present, more than 200 expatriate businessmen and businesses have registered to be members of the association.
