LookAtVietnam - Hanoi’s Transportation Department will join with the Finance Department, the Standard and Measurement Centre and related agencies to inspect taxi companies in the city, said chief transportation inspector Thanh Nhu Sy on July 2.

Sy said that the Hanoi Transportation Department decided to inspect 12 taxi companies. The agency will also organise unscheduled inspections of other tax firms which are reportedly cheating passengers.

Sy said that the department checked five taxi companies, namely Thanh Nam, Van Mieu, Phu Hung, Thanh Hung and Phu Dong, and they detected violations with all of them. The Transportation Department asked three firms to address their activities and temporarily revoked the licences of Van Mieu and Phu Dong taxi.

Vice chief transportation inspector Tran Nhat Quang said that in April and May, inspectors worked with 99 taxi companies and discovered 1,320 violations.

Popular violations are listed as parking at wrong places, taxies without insignias, taxi drivers having no training certificate, taxi drivers failing to meet regulations on age and others.

Inspectors have detected many cases in which drivers used electronic chips to increase taxi fares.

The Hanoi Transportation Department released its conclusion after the first inspection over the operations of taxi firms. It said that taxi firms admitted to their violations without complaint.
