Security system aims to halt theft of public lighting equipment

July 5, 2009  about News, Social

Ho Chi Minh City Public Lighting Company is installing a security system to prevent the theft of wires from the public lighting network.

The company’s Patrol and Supervision Department chief Nguyen Xuan Thai said yesterday that the network works on the principle that when a thief cuts a wire, the equipment will instantly send a signal to the local police station as well as company patrolmen so that they can stop the crime.

So far this year, 400 such thefts have happened in Ho Chi Minh City, causing losses of VND4 billion (US$225,000). Last year, 2,242 cases caused losses totaling VND40 billion ($2.25 million).
