Vietnam, France to establish Hanoi University of Technology

August 1, 2009

LookAtVietnam – Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan has discussed with French Ambassador to Vietnam Herve Bolot a number of issues on how to accelerate the establishment of the Hanoi University of Technology.

The public Hanoi University of Technology, one of Vietnam’s research universities at international standards, will be built in the Hoa Lac high-tech zone under State management and Vietnam’s Education Law.

At a reception in Hanoi on July 31, Mr Nhan proposed that France send one rector or one vice-rector to join other Vietnamese staff in managing the university. He said the Vietnamese Government will adopt a specific financial mechanism for running the university.

Vietnam will co-ordinate with the Asian Development Bank to borrow US$100 million to carry out the project this year.

The Deputy PM also asked the French Government to build a detailed agreement between the two governments under which France will provide 100 million euros to help Vietnam build this university.

He said both sides should finalise all procedures concerning the university’s operational regulations and the establishment of a university council by the end of this year.

For his part, the French Ambassador said France will ask one of its business to join the project and assist Vietnam to train high-quality human resources in the years to come.
