The Coast Guard unit based in the central province of Thua Thien – Hue said Sunday it rescued two local boats that had been under attack by other vessels from the adjacent Quang Ngai Province.

The incident took place at around 8.30 a.m. when Nguyen Van Hung’s boat and Hoang Thai’s boat were fishing off Thua Thien – Hue’s Thuan An Seaport, the former said in his complaint to the agency.

The four Quang Ngai boats then entered their fishing area, damaging nearly 200 of Thai’s nets before attacking Thai’s crew with sharp iron rods, injuring him and another man.

When Hung tried to intervene, his boat was also attacked and was in danger of sinking.

The attack was only called off when the Thua Thien-Hue Coast Guard arrived following Hung’s SOS. The four boats tried to flee but were apprehended by the Coast Guard.

According to Nguyen Dang Tam of the Coast Guard, the Quang Ngai boats and the 25 fishermen aboard then did not carry any identification papers.
