In many places, fresh water is so short that farmers cannot plant the summer-autumn crop. Many people don’t have sufficient water for daily life and their cattle. Salt water is encroaching deeply into the mainland.

Ponds, lakes and canals have dried up to the bottom.

Farmers in Dai Loc District, Quang Ngai Province, must carry water from wells to irrigate their fields.

The Thu Bon River is dry where it passes under the Cau Lau bridge in Quang Nam province.

At Da Nang’s Dong Nghe Lake, water is at record low level. Cars can now run on the lake bed.

Quang Nam has built a barrage to prevent salt water from flowing into the Thu Bon river basin at high tide.
