The authors – Ha Van Tan, Nguyen Van Ku and Pham Ngoc Long – selected 1000 photos, sketches and maps as well as helpful information about pagodas in Vietnam. The new edition also introduces two more types of pagodas in Vietnam, mountainous and island pagodas.
Buddhism entered Vietnam in the early years of Common era. Since then, pagodas have been built throughout Vietnam. The oldest pagodas appeared around 2000 years ago. Pagodas are spiritual centres of Vietnamese communities, the places for cultural and festival activities and also special architectural works.
“The book is not a simple religious book for Buddhist monks and followers, but also a book for many other readers, from cultural and religious researchers and those who love traditional architecture and arts,” commented Dr. Nguyen Viet from the Southeast Asia Prehistoric Centre.
