February 28, 2011

A primary school in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre reported seven confirmed cases of H1N1 on Saturday.

The province’s Department of Health announced that these are the first swine flu cases to have been reported in the province since the beginning of this year.

Ngo Van Tan, the department’s director, said that more than 200 students at the Giao Thanh Primary School have developed flu-like symptoms.

Tan also said his agency is working with the HCMC Pasteur Institute to isolate the patients and administer Tamiflu doses to all of the students in an effort to prevent the disease from spreading.

Prior to this most recent announcement, Vietnam had recorded 96 cases of influenza A/H1N1 infection, including one death, since the beginning of this year.
