Office post remained for judge accused of illicit affair

January 5, 2012

A former judge in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta kept his position as the provincial court office deputy after receiving public criticism for going to a guest room with another man’s wife.

The case was discovered in early October by the woman’s in-laws. Nguyen Thanh Mong, deputy head of Ca Mau People’s Court Office, said he offered legal advice to the woman, who he claimed was having family troubles.

A recent punishment decision by the Ca Mau court only suggested that the Supreme People’s Court dismiss Mong’s legal title as a judge and leave him in the deputy head position of the Ca Mau court office, news website VnExpress said Wednesday.

Tran Trong Huu, the deputy presiding judge of Ca Mau People’s Court, said the removal of Mong’s legal title was to avoid future complaints.

Earlier, Mong lodged a letter to his superiors volunteering to relinquish his judge title.

The man received a warning from Ca Mau Party unit as a Party member around a month ago.
