Nine high school students were injured Saturday after a tree fell on a tent where they were camping in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang, Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper reported.

Four male and five female students, all 11th graders at Nguyen Dinh Chieu High School in My Tho City, sustained mostly external injuries and are being treated at Tien Giang Province General Hospital.

Two female students – Doan Nguyen Tuong Han and Nguyen Ha Nguyet Que – suffered head injuries while Nguyen Kim Huan, a male student, injured their pelvises.

The accident occurred at noon when the rotten trunk of a big tree broke and fell on the tent of Class 11C5.

Eyewitnesses said it was lucky that many of 49 students of the class happened to be in other tents for lunch at the time of the accident, otherwise the number of injured students would have been higher.
