Border guards in Vietnam’s southernmost province of Ca Mau said they received a Cambodian national on Thursday who had been stranded at sea and was rescued by a Vietnamese fisherman on Monday.
The man, known informally as La, said he worked for a Thailand’s fishing vessel and had an argument with a crew member on June 21. He said he jumped into the water to avoid being beaten.
La was rescued by fisherman Nguyen Van Mong, but his boat had not finished its fishing voyage, so Mong transferred him to the boat belonging to Nguyen Van Rong.
The 25-year-old was the seventh Cambodian rescued by Vietnamese fishermen this year.
