Ho Chi Minh City has put into operation two buses designed to accommodate passengers with disabilities that has entrances for wheelchairs, the Tuoi Tre newspaper reported.

This is the first time that such buses are being used in the country.

The two buses are among eight buses fueled by compressed natural gas (CNG) that began plying the 104 bus route on Tuesday

The two buses have wider doors and lower floors than normal ones.

They have separate seats for disabled passengers and entrances for wheelchairs.

The HCMC Transport Department said buses currently operating in the city are not friendly to disabled persons, deterring them from using public transportation.

The city targets having buses for passengers with disabilities make up 5-10 percent of all public buses by 2020, the department said.
