LookAtVietnam Bridge – The Ministry of Education and Training on May 14 said that 2.2mil registrations to sit for university entrance exams had been submitted, an increase of 18% over 2007 (1.8mil registrations).

Universities receive applications
Can Tho University has received the highest number of applications (100,000), while the HCM City University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hanoi Open Institute, the University of Business and Technology, Forestry University all have seen sharp increases in applications compared to 2007.

As for Can Tho University, the competition ratio is very high for tourism faculty (1 to 40). Meanwhile, the ratio for primary education is 1/29, business administration 1/27, while others have the ratios of between 1/8 and 1/14.

For the HCM City Industry University, the competition ratio is 1/27 for finance and banking, 1/22 for accountancy, 1/21 for business administration, while others have ratios of between 1/6 and1/14.

The University of Natural Sciences under the HCM City National University this year sees very high number of registrations. The competition ratio is 1/27 for environmental science, while the ratios are 1/25 and 1/21 for environment technology and biological technology, respectively. For economics faculty of the national economy, the competition ratio is very high, 1/34.

The number of registrations for the city’s University of Technology is unexpectedly low, resulting in the competition ratios of between 1/1 and 1/4.

Journalism is the faculty that most students have chosen at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, with the competition ratio at 1/16.

As for the HCM City Medical University, the highest competition ratio belongs to the treatment and convalescence faculty, 1/58, while the ratios for Physiotherapy and Testing are 1/27 and 1/24 respectively, obstetrics and general practitioner, 1/18 and 1/13.

Experts say that many students will not take exams to the universities and faculties with high competition ratios (one student can make several registrations). Students of average capacity will sit for exams to get into universities which require low scores.

Meanwhile, universities with low competition ratios will also be difficult-to-reach goals. Despite the low competition ratios, candidates will not be enrolled easily, as candidates all have good knowledge and capacity.
