Mr. Nguyen Quoc Ky | LookAtVietnam Bridge - Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Tran Chien Thang on May 13 was appointed the new Head of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), replacing acting head Nguyen Quoc Ky.
On May 7, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung asked the Ministry of Home Affairs to coordinate with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and related agencies to verify information related to Ky, acting head of VNAT.
The Prime Minister’s request came after the media reported that in 1990, when Ky was an employee of the HCM City Tourism Company (Saigontourist), he received one tael of gold from an unqualified worker to “help” this person to be recruited by the Saigontourist Automobile Enterprise. Ky was fired for this.
In early 2008, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism appointed Ky, who was the General Director of Vietravel, one of the largest travel firms in Vietnam, as vice head and acting head of VNAT.
In an interview with VNExpress, Ky said he made a mistake 18 years ago when he was young and he had to pay for that mistake with his political career and on all declarations it must be clearly written, “was fired”.
“Tomorrow if my superiors decide to withdraw me from this position, I will be at ease receiving that decision. It is no problem!” Ky said.
