LookAtVietnam Bridge – Japanese parliamentarians have committed to making further contributions to the friendship and cooperation between Japan and Vietnam.

The members of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians League made the commitment during their meeting with Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Phu Binh in Tokyo on May 15.

The meeting was aimed at increasing exchange and cooperation between the two countries, particularly in conducting activities to mark the 35th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

Chairman of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians League Tsutomu Takebe spoke highly of the development of relations between Japan and Vietnam and said the establishment of the Japan-Mekong Friendship Parliamentarians League will push up Vietnam-Japan ties.

He said one of his union’s important tasks in the future is to support and coordinate with Japanese and Vietnamese agencies to successfully organise the Vietnam Festival 2008, scheduled for September 20-21 in Tokyo .

Ambassador Binh recalled development steps in the relationship between Vietnam and Japan, particularly their agreement to establish strategic partnership.

He also said he hoped the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians League would assist the two countries in their Economic Partnership Agreement negotiations.

The Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians League has 140 member parliamentarians. Its assistance to Vietnam includes boosting three major infrastructure projects in the Southeast Asian country, namely the North-South express railway, the North-South highway and the Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park.
