LookAtVietnam Bridge – The government has raised its socio-economic programme investment in disadvantaged areas in the Central Highlands Gia Lai province to 700 million VND (43,750 USD) per commune.
The investment, part of the government’s Programmes 134 and 135 on land and infrastructure for the poor, is targeting 62 communes and more than 300 villages facing special hardship in Gia Lai.
Its goal is to provide housing for 800 families and more than 1,200 households will receive land for production.
In recent years, the socio-economic programmes have funded construction of transport and irrigation infrastructure, schools and medical centres, as well as safe water projects in the province.
Almost 20,000 ethnic minority families settled into houses worth 8-10 million VND each, over 2,600 households received 1,000ha of land for production and 22,000 households gained access to safe water.
Transport infrastructure in the province was upgraded, easing traffic jams during the rainy season, and almost all children attended schools and received free-of-charge medical treatment.
