Bridge – The Vietnam Chess Federation on May 16 signed an agreement with FPT, under which the two sides will co-organise an annual chess event, namely FPT World Great Master Star tournament for International Great Masters.

The first tournament will be organised in September 2008 and it may become an official event in the World Chess Confederation’s competition system.

FPT also committed to present scholarships to disadvantaged chess talents between the ages of 6 and 11. Outstanding chess players will be sponsored by FPT to attend international events.

This year FPT will grant 15 scholarships worth VND500,000 per month to young talents and will sponsor two important events that Vietnam will host this year: the Southeast Asian Young Chess Championship in Da Nang this June and the World Young Chess Championship in Ba Ria-Vung Tau this October.
