LookAtVietnam Bridge – While the sales of IT equipment in the first months of 2008 fell by half compared to the same period of 2007, that of laptops grew highly.
In late 2007, laptop sales accounted for 20% of the total sales of computers in Vietnam and the share will be 25-30% this year, according to computer traders.
Nguyen Manh Lan, manager of the Dang Khoa computer store, said the sales of desktops increased by 12% in the first three months of 2008, while it was 45% for laptops.
According to laptop traders, there are several reasons for the good sales of laptops in Vietnam: firstly manufactures have launched many new models at reasonable prices, especially HP and Acer; secondly, after-sale services have improved and worldwide reputed computer producers have opened warranty centres in Vietnam. Thirdly, service quality at retail centers has been upgraded.
