Green Bamboo, the winner of Imagine Cup Vietnam 2005

LookAtVietnam Bridge – Image Cup Vietnam, a technological contest held by Microsoft, has chosen the best projects for the finals.

The selected teams will defend their projects before a jury for 20 minutes in English and introduce a project demo on May 21 in Hanoi.

The five projects entering the finals are: Green Peace Website (University of Technology under the Hanoi National University); a system to automatically collect and classify solid waste at the source of discharge – Milestone (Hanoi University of Technology); Treating crop and livestock diseases with environmental protection (Can Tho University); a plant and environmental information system (Can Tho University); Light up animal kingdom (HCM City University of Natural Sciences).

“One of the most important things in protecting the environment is educating people and changing their behaviour. If contestants are provided with more information and databases on the ecological system and the environment, their products will be more useful,” said Dr. Hoang Duong Tung, Director of the Observation and Environmental Information Centre, a jury member.

2008 is the first year that the Vietnam Association of Information Processing (VAIP) and Microsoft Vietnam have joined hands to launch Imagine Cup Vietnam contest and they have received over 800 applications at website imaginecup.com.

“Though the environment is a difficult topic in software design, many students have sent projects to the contest. Most of them come from the HCM City University of Natural Sciences, the Hanoi University of Technology, HCM City IT University, and Can Tho University,” said VAIP General Secretary Nguyen Long.

The awards ceremony of Imagine Cup Vietnam 2008 will take place on May 22. The champion will represent Vietnam at the world finals in Paris, France from July 3-8.
