Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Le Nam Thang (white) | LookAtVietnam Bridge – Along with licencing some firms to test mobile Wimax technology, MMDS television service will be put to an end by 2010 to reserve the whole 2.5-2.69 GHz band for 3G services, said a senior official.
Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Le Nam Thang said the Ministry licenced several companies to test wireless broadband Internet connection technology (wireless Wimax) on 2,300-2,400 MHz and 2,500-2,900MHz frequencies. Wireless Wimax was added to ITM-2000 standards as a member of 3G technology at the recent World Radio Conference.
MMDS television service is using the above bands but from now on MMDS service providers will not be allowed to seek new clients and the service will be halted in 2010 to give up the band to 3G services.
The Radio Frequency Agency will have to research changes made at the World Radio Conference to amend the national frequency planning.
